Wondering how Casey Key got its name? According to old Florida maps it was originally names Chaise’s Key, although no one is sure why. A map produced in 1856 by Lt J. C. Ives changed it to Casey to honor Capt. John C Casey who charted the region. Interestingly, Capt. Casey was known as a “man of character” who was held in the highest regard by his peers and the Seminole Indians.
